  • I have to say that the last 24hrs has been fairly disappointing. An impassioned outburst, a damaging 2 year old comment, and now Ibbitson posts an article addressing the fact that, even though the leadership race has started, our rules for voting are not fully in place. Why not?!?

The article even suggested that some are in favour of charging…[Read more]

    • Ibbitson is a shill for the CPC – I wouldn’t trust anything that he says. He’s busy trying to get his Senate appointment. As for the 2 yr old interview with Trudeau, I’m curious if anyone from the LPC has managed to get hold of the unedited interview. Some of the quotes just didn’t look right and I wouldn’t put it past Sun Media to edit out…[Read more]

      • Marco, I agree with you. It is very disappointing that poor judgment in both cases further emphasizes the prejudices in Canada. If I was an Albertan thinking of voting in a different way, I likely would reconsider that now.

        • Peter: If Harper had not been running a divisive administration, why the results for the CPC in Quebec. Are Albertans to believe Harper was not punishing Quebec and using Alberta’s long standing woes as a sop? JT may have chosen his words better but HarperCons and big oil are running a well coordinated campaign to champion Alberta’s economic…[Read more]

          • Loyd, thank you for your thoughtful comments. I am a Liberal party member for the past year due to the present Conservative government record and direction. I was disappointed in Justin’s comments of two years ago as it contradicted his more recent statements of saying the same thing across Canada. He was caught Romney like in changing his…[Read more]

    • Simply because Liberals were optimistic about winning Calgary-Centre does not mean anyone ’actually’ believes it will happen.

Harvey Locke, like many other Liberals living and voting in Alberta, may only be fighting the good fight in the losing cause of convincing conservatives of their folley and corruption.

    • I followed a small twitter discussion last night between “members” of the party. I will admit that allowing supporters to vote is new and no other party does it. But the optics could be bad.

If we change the election rules and not allow supporters to vote, will they feel not welcome and stay home during the federal election also?

      This could be…[Read more]

      • I’m afraid that we are setting ourselves for potential PR problem by not underlining the fact that our Supporter vote is a weighted one (almost all supporters who signed up are assuming that their vote would count as a direct vote for a leader). Supporters I explained the voting system to, were angry when i explained to them that, in fact, their…[Read more]

I would not like to see the rules change until after this leadership race, if they change at all.

          • Hi John,
Sorry for not being clear – I do not advocate for a change of the current rules. I just wanted to point out that there is a widespread of misunderstanding of current rules which may result in disappointment when election results are announced and explained.

    • I’m not so concerned about either McGunity’s or Trudeau’s comments, as they were both taken out of context and not seen, as they should be, in a broader context. We really have no chance of winning Calgary Centre, either way, even though it would be a nice breakthrough. McGunity’s call was for national considerations of Alberta’s vast oil…[Read more]

  • Veteran care needs to be a central policy of the Liberal Party of Canada. Let us give them the due that the current government does not. Not as a partisan pursuit but as an issue of justice. As they stood for us and our way of life we must stand behind them.

  • I firmly believe that we need to take a strong stand publicly for the advocacy of veteran rights and long term care. Our party rightly ensured that the veterans of WWII were properly cared for and given the respect and support that was so deserved in the light of their commitment and sacrifice for our nation. The fact that we have any homeless or…[Read more]

    • I don’t think Paul Martin did anything to help veterans with his policy on a lump sum payment..maight be a good idea to reduce cost but certaiinly of very little benefit to veteran…I believe a specified monthly payment like in the past was the best means of insuring a continued level of living for our veterans.

      • I was thinking of the present, not the past my friend. The people I know who are veterans of the Afghanistan campaign need our help now more than ever. Rational and responsive opportunity is what I believe they are interested in above all.

Great 3 riding BBQ in Windsor-Essex yesterday. It was exciting and inspiring to see Mr. Trudeau, Mr. Bertschi, Ms. Coyne, Mr. Takach and Mr. Mousley take their time to attend this event.

  • I’d like to personally thank the Liberal online team for all of their hard work. Tonight’s difficulties should not be looked at as a failure on anyones part.

I am confident that we will all get a chance to buy Liberal party goods and show them proudly very soon.

  • Congratulations to Grant Gordon in winning the Toronto-Danforth nomination. Time to work Liberals. First thing is to get a proper website to promote Mr. Gordon. I tried to show a coworker who has turned Blue his information today and couldn’t pull anything up of worth. Not acceptable.

    • It really was great, Marco. This ’open party’ format is very engaging, if not empowering, for those who participate. And it will only improve with time, for we have plenty of it before the next election.

    Hello Sean,

Recently PM Harper announced a plan to adopt the “Helmets to Hardhats” campaign from the US. The idea, as you know, offers veterans jobs filling shortages of skilled trade workers in Canada.

I think as Liberals we understand this is just one of the many approaches that can be taken to help veterans find gainful employment…[Read more]

    • That plan and approach, if you don’t mind me saying, might be too logical. Hey there Marco. You’ll probably remember me from our previous two meetings and introductions. Glad to chat with you here online.

Finding gainful employment for #vets after deployment should not be our main focus. They need a break, plain and simple. No matter the strength…[Read more]

That said, we were beaten to the punch by the PC’s on this.

There are many many great ideas on all issues from Liberals. We should show the country where the creativity and vision is by publishing as many as possible.

  • Very excited to see how well we did in fundraising over the last 12 days. Not bad for a ”dead” party i’d say.

This is such a positive step forward in helping us lay the groundwork for positive future efforts.

So proud to be a Liberal!
