Mr. Russell has been a champion and strong advocate for Labrador at every political level in the country. Being of Inuit-Metis ancestry, he has a close and intimate connection to the land and its people.
Mr. Russell launched his political career as Chair of the student council during his years at Memorial University’s Sir Wilfred Grenfell College campus. He was elected to the board of the Labrador Metis Association, now the Labrador Metis Nation, in 1992. Two years later he was elected president, a position he held until 2005. Upon completion of high school, Mr. Russell attended Memorial University in St. John’s, graduating with a bachelor of arts in history and classics.
