Biography
First elected to office June 28, 2004, Francis Scarpaleggia is the Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Louis, representing much of Montreal's West Island. He was re-elected to the House of Commons in January, 2006 and again in October 2008.
Mr. Scarpaleggia is a member of the House of Commons committee on Canadian Heritage. He is also a member of the committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. From 2004 to 2005, he was a member of the House of Commons committees on Transport and Government Operations.
Mr. Scarpaleggia is currently chair of the Quebec section of the national Liberal caucus and founding chair of the national Liberal water caucus.
Mr. Scarpaleggia has strong ties to the West Island community and has fostered relationships with local community leaders and elected representatives at all levels of government. As senior political advisor to his predecessor, Clifford Lincoln, for many years, he also has extensive experience on Parliament Hill, having worked on issues ranging from environmental sustainability to broadcasting.
Prior to his career in politics, Mr. Scarpaleggia was a professor of business administration at Montreal's Dawson College, where he taught marketing, accounting and entrepreneurship. Prior to that, he spent several years working in the private sector, where he gained valuable experience as a corporate financial analyst.
Fluently bilingual, Mr. Scarpaleggia holds a bachelor's degree in economics from McGill University and a master's degree in economics from Columbia University in New York. He later obtained an MBA from Concordia University, as well as a diploma in management from McGill.
Mr. Scarpaleggia lives with his wife and two children in Kirkland, Quebec.
