Biography

Martha Hall Findlay was elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in Willowdale on March 17, 2008. Ms. Hall Findlay is the Liberal Critic for Public Works & Government Services.

During the last session of Parliament, Ms. Hall Findlay was the Associate Finance Critic for the Official Opposition and served on the House of Commons Committee on Finance as well as the House of Commons Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

In 2006, Ms. Hall Findlay made a bold ten-month bid for the Liberal leadership. Her campaign was highly praised for her travels across the country in the “Big Red Bus”, which became a symbol of energy, renewal, and grassroots engagement in the party.

A graduate of the University of Toronto’s International Relations Programme and Osgoode Hall Law School, Ms. Hall Findlay is a well-respected lawyer, businesswoman and entrepreneur. In 1997, she founded The General Counsel Group, a management and legal consultants firm, and has worked primarily in the telecommunications fields in both Canada and Europe.

Ms. Hall Findlay also has extensive non-profit and volunteer experience. She has served as a Director and Executive Member with various community organizations and ratepayer associations, including CKUA Radio in Alberta, the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs and the Georgian Bay Association. She recently served as Vice President, Policy of the Ontario Women’s Liberal Commission and is an active member of Equal Voice, a multi-partisan organization dedicated to electing more women into politics.

Ms. Hall Findlay has three grown children: Katie, Everett and Patrick.
