Yet the government is ratifying the treaty without public scrutiny or any consultations. Canadians are being kept in the dark.

    • I live in downtown Toronto. We are plagued by gang-related gun violence. There is no question in my mind that there is a direct link between gang violence and marijuana prohibition and that the legalization AND regulation of marijuana would have a profound impact on gang violence.

    • Cannabis is a cash cow for organized crime, just as alcohol was during prohibition. If the government takes over the distribution of it, it would make a big dent in the income of many criminal organizations. This by itself is a good enough reason for doing so. There will still be gangs and gang violence because there are plenty of other crimes…[En afficher davantage]

      • I agree with what you are saying … but … the term “decriminalization” generally refers to turning possession of small quantities into a misdemeanour while still keeping production and sale illegal. This keeps the profits ($5 billion a year) in the hands of gangs and organized crime.

Strangely enough I do believe that this problem fits with a proposal that I put forward over on the InternationalTrade forum here!

    • I regard that Mr. Justin Trudeau is in an excellent position to address some of the most serious questions facing Canadians. In a sense the writing of economist John Hotson trace back the growth in Canada’s national debt to an error that was made by Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in the early ’70′s!

But, there are positive aspects to our…[En afficher davantage]

  • This week (14-20th October) is #smallbusiness week. Small businesses account for 98% of all companies, 40% of our GDP, and half of all new job vacancies! • Hi All, I’ve been working hard recently to find out how the Conservative government’s cuts to the Canadian #tourism industry (for example, the government has slashed funds for our international marketing and cut funds, staff and season-length for national parks) have affected our tourism operators and #smallbusinesses. • Ken: The US economy is in bad shape right now. Your reduced sales could simply be a function of the economic uncertainty.

Many people aren’t secure in their jobs and others are unemployed.

The only problem is the current state of the US is probably going to stay the same or get worse because they can’t balance their budget.

      • The currency is definitely a factor, but the high value of the Canadian dollar is more a story about the low value of the US dollar. Also, US tourism was affected negatively once the US required its citizens to have a valid passport to cross the land border crossings.
