If you are interested in helping out on a Liberal.ca riding website and are in the Ottawa region. You might want to attend the Ottawa Wordcamp: http://2013.ottawa.wordcamp.org/ Its a 1 day conference about WordPress, the software we use to power all the riding websites. I’m going to be speaking at the conference :)

Personally I love this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B88c5rfCHKs
I’d love to hear your comments on it.
I think it does a great job grabbing people who aren’t already in the know about the vote. -

Did you know that you could change your displayname on the Liberal.ca community to only be your first name? We’ve taken this step in response to feedback regarding our members privacy on the Internet. #website
-
And also, i’m sure, because of the lack of media coverage of current and actual members who have stood by their true-selves during these times of substantial scrutiny, self reflection, representation and liberty.
Are u saying our content needs to allow for a sense if anonymity? Interesting…
-
I have access to Liberalist and could find more about you than you might wish.
Not that I would, but it is open to abuse.
-
@Christopher-Braginetz Please remember that to have a Liberalist account you have signed a confidentiality agreement and the Liberal Party of Canada will strongly protect its members, supporters, donors, and volunteers’ data from a breach of privacy. We will provide to Elections Canada information on any user who violates the privacy agreement.…[En afficher davantage]

What does Elections Canada have to do with Liberalist and confidentiality agreements between the Party and a Party member? If the Party becomes aware of any Party member with Liberalist access contravening the terms of their confidentiality agreement, is it not simply a matter of discussing the matter with that member privately and revoking their…[En afficher davantage]

My confidence in EC has never been high and has dropped some more lately. Clearly, the abuse of party lists is more than a civil matter and rightly so. It is a breach of a right and I wish it was a straight forward criminal offence but failing that EC will have to do till the Liberals have the power to make it such.

Recharging for a month…
All anyone needs to know about Liberalist is in the Liberal University section. Other that what’s publicly available, I can’t comment further on it.
I believe there’s a line between genuine marketing and what Kenny did, and I don’t much like it.
-
I could be wrong… but unless you are a system-wide administrator, your Liberalist access should be limited to viewing member information for members within your own EDA only.
-
-
I fail to see how changing one’s display name from full to first name improves privacy or creates a sense of anonymity. Our full names are still shown on our posts, and our profiles still show which riding we are in.
-
Doug, You must change the setting to Set your display name to first name. For example I have just done this now. Now if you go to my profile page, you will only See Stéphane. Also you will see only Stéphane beside this post.
-
or not! Hummm… it should of said just Stéphane
-
Yes, the first name shows only under the large Profile picture on one’s profile page, and that’s it. Every member’s full name, riding name, member and donor status is still visible on their profile page to both logged & non-logged visitors who click on their avatar or their name-link in the info-line on any of their posts.
If you want to…[En afficher davantage]

It is supposed to just show the First Name. We believe first names only is a solution that balances privacy and keeps people mindful of the fact that they are talking to other Liberal members and not just to a faceless nickname.
You may also be interested to know that none of the members profile pages are accessible by search engines.

I strongly support having comments and commentators fully identified. NO ALIAS names please!
If you have something to hide, join the CONS !!!
Anyone who is concerned has the option not to comment.

I agree with the basic premise, but it isn’t US some people would rather be anonymous with. Some people are vigorously mindful of information they put out on the web due to privacy and identity theft issues–they therefore have a policy of not allowing datamining even of the most trivial and/or generic information. So, while I totally agree…[En afficher davantage]

Well said Jennifer. The most important thing is that Liberals feel free to express their opinions here. Accurate first names is a wise compromise on this issue.

Jennifer:
I understand the concerns about privacy and again people have a choice. Do not hide with a nickname, I agree. But publicly voicing your views does have a downside. I don’t think use the first name only means the same thing as anonymity. Obviously, the full name remains available and can be looked up by anyone on the inside.

I donated my $100 bucks ($25 really) when the emails mentioned how it’s the equivalent of a few orange juices. I felt like rewarding the humor – it really did make me smile! But you raise a good point – I can chip in a bit once more.
-
Just made my donation. Since we are now retired whatever I give is the real amount. No 75 % return.
Every little bit helps. Remember, that’s how the cons do it. $5.00 here $10.00 there. It really does add up.-
That’s exactly how they do it. Everyone pitches in $5 a month and it really starts adding up.

I made my donation too!

And, if you are not a Victory Fund (automatic monthly donations) donor yet, sign up as one as soon as possible. Think of your monthly donation as an insurance premium with the benefit of significant tax credits.

I’m not so sure. I donated to the Borys Wrzesnewskyj cause and look how that turned out: democracy lost but I did gain a tax deduction so not all was lost.

I just Donated a Bev Oda size glass of orange juice for the By-Elections!
The 3 Campaign offices need the 16$ to be able to reach Canadians.-
I see your glass of orange juice, and raise you 2 packs of Bev Oda smokes! ($20).
Come on everyone – let’s dig deep and give what we can!
Make a donation, give Stéphane a thumbs up, add a comment and let’s keep this post at the top for a while.

Does that mean the last person on here winds up donating an Oda sized limo ride?[ $1000 or more i believe]
I’m finally back to work for a while, so i’m in for 16.-
That’s great guys! That’s exactly what we need to make the ideas we talk about here a reality. We only need a few hundred people to donate 16$ to reach the spending limit for each riding so lets get her done!

I am in for my standard $100.00 per LPC issue. [ I am a financial responsible Liberal, I took a taxi ;-) ]

Well done Rick!
And I just know, beyond any question, that all the posters on this site, the complainers and the whiners, and the ones with great ideas and the ones with “out of the box” ideas, the ones that love Trudeau and the ones that don’t, the ones that want to buddy up with China and the one’s that are afraid of that, the pro…[En afficher davantage]

Just an little fyi, we implemented one of the feature request we’ve gotten many times. We changed how the posts are ordered on the community #website , now the posts are ordered by the latest activity, so if someone comments on a post, that post goes back to the top of the page.

Oups! this seems to have caused some problems, we’ve revered to the old behaviour for now until we get things sorted out!

Hi Hugh:
Not sure what you mean by a ‘VMWare image’.
Do you mean having a complete mirror copy (full file-set and d-base) of… say… Liberal.ca installed and operating on a localhost machine? -
If you’re asking about page loading time, it seems to have improved Steph. I noticed an improvement on En Famille this morning even though E-F pages have always loaded quicker than Liberal.ca pages. Perseverence pays off! :)

Thanks Doug, This should only really impact the PHP+MySQL powered sites. The best improvements will be seen on database heavy sections. If you manage a EDA or candidate website you will see a huge improvement in the administration of the site which was getting very slow and prone to time-outs.
