Liberal.ca: Getting started guide

This Getting Started Guide will help you sign up, create a profile, and answer questions you may have like “How do I comment on a blog post?” or even “How do I delete my account?”

Where do I start? How do I sign up?

Sign up by filling out the form on the top half of the page to subscribe for email updates. When prompted, create a password to enable your account. You will need to click a link in a confirmation email to activate your account.

What can I do once I’ve sign up/created an account?

Once you’ve created an account, you can:

  • edit your profile and click on and see other people’s profiles
  • comment on blog posts
  • read members’ posts in the community section (Only Liberal Party member can post comments in the community section)
  • consult your membership status
  • modify your comment notification settings

How do I edit my profile?

Click “My profile” and then click “Edit” in the sub menu. Fill in the appropriate fields as needed.

How do I add/change my profile picture?

Click “My profile” and then “Change photo” in the sub menu. Click “Browse” and select the image you’d like to use. Once the image is uploaded, you’ll be asked to crop the image and save it.

What are badges? How can I get them?

Members and donors can publicize their status as such on their profile and alongside their comments by choosing to “Show badges” when editing their profile. Donors who are part of the Victory Fund or Laurier Club have their own special badges.

What sections of my profile are public?

All the fields on your profile are public except for your badges which you can select to hide or show and your email address which is always hidden.

How do I comment on a blog post?

You must have an account to comment on blog posts. Once you are logged in, simply write your comment in the field at the bottom of the comment thread and click “Post comment”.

Who can read my comments?

Anyone who visits http://liberal.ca can view comments that are posted on blog posts that appear on the home page. Anyone who creates a liberal.ca account by providing their email address can view your comments on the Liberal Community.

Who can post a comment?

Anyone who creates a Liberal.ca account by providing their email address can  post comments on the blog that appears on the homepage of Liberal.ca Only members who have provided  information to confirm their membership are able to post on the Liberal Community discussion board.

Why can’t I post in the Liberal Community section?

Posting in the community section is a benefit of being a member of the Liberal Party. Join the Party now so you can join the community as soon as possible.

Whose comments do I see when I visit the Liberal Community?

The Liberal Community is a national discussion board so the comments come from members who live across the country.

I’m a member. How do I post in the community section?

Once your membership is approved by your Provincial Territorial Association, use the dialogue box that appears at the top of the comments thread in the community area. If you are a member in good standing, but are still unable to comment, please click this link for assistance.

How do I start a topic thread in the community section?

Add # before a word (ie. #environment) and when you click on that word it will display all posts containing #environment. This is known as a hashtag. Use hashtags to start a conversationor group with likeminded Liberals. Anyone can start a conversationor group on any topic. Use the “Trending topics” list on the left sidebar to browse the most popular conversation topics.

How can I see comments from people who live in my riding?

If you want to discuss issues with people in your riding, you can start a conversation thread by hashtagging your riding. For example if you include #Gatineau, you would start a discussion thread for Gatineau and all comments including #Gatineau would be grouped together so you could read them whenever you click on #Gatineau in a post.

Why isn’t the Community section bilingual?

We want to make it as easy as possible for visitors to join the conversation in the official language of their choice. To switch languages, just click the Français button in the top right hand corner.

How do I consult my membership status?

Click “My profile” and then “Membership” in the sub menu. This section will tell you whether or not you are a member, your membership number, and how to auto renew your membership. If you have a question about your membership, you can email membership@liberal.ca.

How do I change my comment notification settings?

Click “Settings” in the top right hand corner of the web page. This section allows you to unsubscribe or subscribe to comment notifications.

How do I submit a Liberal event for the event page?

You can submit events here. For a guide on how to submit an event click here. All event submissions are reviewed before publication. Anyone organizing a Liberal event can advertise their event on the Liberal.ca events page and, if they so wish, use the page to manage RSVPs and ticket sales.

How do I delete my account?

Click “My profile” and then “Notifications” in the sub menu. Then click “Delete account” and click to confirm the account deletion. This cannot be undone.
