First elected as the MP for Halifax West in 1993, Geoff Regan was re-elected to his sixth term in May 2011.
Geoff has worked tirelessly to advance citizen-based initiatives such as education, environmental protection, health promotion, retirement security, the Community Access Program and home retrofit program. He is committed to promoting public engagement and has held over 100 town hall meetings.
Geoff was Minister of Fisheries and Oceans from 2003-06 and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Government House Leader from 2001-03. As regional minister for Nova Scotia, Geoff was fully engaged in negotiating the 2005 Offshore Accord and signed the historic agreement on behalf of the federal government.
Geoff is a senior member of the Liberal caucus and currently serves as critic for Industry and Consumer Affairs.
Before entering public life, Geoff practiced law and was an active community volunteer. He is a former president of the Bedford Board of Trade and a former chair of the Metro Food Bank and Beacon House.
Geoff and his wife Kelly have three children and live in Bedford.

Over the past several years I have received a growing number of complaints about towers just less than 15 meters in height being erected in neighbourhoods across the country. This is an important figure because towers under 15 meters are deliberately excluded from the consultation process required by Industry Canada. As a result Canadians often received no notice and had no say over where these towers were installed in their communities. More »
Right now in Canada, young people are facing high tuition fees, heavy student debt loads, and the worst youth unemployment in a generation. But young Canadians are developing their skills, speaking out about policies that impact them and working together to make life better for their peers.
