Jim Karygiannis is the Member of Parliament for Scarborough–Agincourt. During the last session of Parliament, he was a member of the Caucus Committee on Canada and the World. Mr. Karygiannis previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister responsible for Democratic Renewal. He has also served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport with special emphasis on transportation and environment.
Mr. Karygiannis has been a representative of his constituents’ interests in many countries around the world. He has participated in rallies in support of the refugees of Agios Amvrosios in Cyprus. He visited India and hosted many international initiatives in Canada in 2003. In 2002, he led two trade delegations, one to Pakistan and the other to China.
In 1999, the President of the Hellenic Republic awarded Mr. Karygiannis the decoration of the Officer of the Order of Phoenix in recognition of his many public service contributions.
Mr. Karygiannis graduated in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto. He also holds a degree of Fellowship of Business Administration from the Canadian School of Management.
He has been active in community organizations, as a member of the Riverdale Kiwanis Club, and CKFM Children’s Fund Heritage Day Festivals.
Mr. Karygiannis was born in Athens, Greece and immigrated to Canada as a teenager in 1966. He is now married, with five daughters.
