Massimo Pacetti was first elected to the House of Commons as a member of the Liberal Party for the riding of Saint-Léonard / Saint-Michel in a May 2002 by-election. He was re-elected in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2011.
Following the elections of 2006 and 2008, Mr. Pacetti was elected Vice-Chairman of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance, a committee which he chaired under the previous Liberal Government. Furthermore, from 2006 to 2008, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Liberal Caucus Committee on Economic Prosperity and was a member of the Liberal Caucus Priorities and Planning Committee. He was also elected Chairman of the Liberal Caucus Economic Development Committee from 2004 to 2005 and has served as a member of the Standing Committees on Official Languages, Citizenship and Immigration, and Government Operations and Estimates.
Since 2004, he has been elected several times to the Executive Committee of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association and, since 2006, has been elected Chairman of the Canada-Italy Inter-Parliamentary Group.
Before entering public life, Mr. Pacetti managed his own accounting firm which he founded in 1993. Mr. Pacetti was also elected as a school trustee for the Pointe-de-l'Île School Board from 1998 to 2002.
Mr. Pacetti holds a degree in Certified General Accounting (CGA) from the Ordre des Comptables Généraux Accrédités du Québec, a Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy from McGill University and a bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Concordia University and in 2008 he was awarded a Fellowship by the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada. He and his wife Danielle have two children and live in the riding of Saint-Léonard / Saint-Michel.
