Scott Simms was first elected as Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor in June 2004. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2008. During the last session of Parliament, Mr. Simms was the Critic for the Fisheries and Oceans.
Since his election, Mr. Simms has served as member of two House of Commons Standing Committees: Heritage and Fisheries. He has also sat on four Liberal caucus committees – Cities and Communities (formed to deal with the gas tax distribution), Employment Insurance Reform, Expenditure Review and Forestry.
In February 2004, Mr. Simms was elected by his peers to Chair the Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal Caucus.
Born and raised in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland, Mr. Simms has always been very active in community and family life. With personality, humour, and always with a desire to promote Newfoundland and Labrador, Mr. Simms delivered the latest weather conditions across Canada on the Weather Network for over ten plus years.
Mr. Simms is a Commerce graduate of Mount Allison University and from there went on to study journalism. In his free time, Mr. Simms enjoys spending time with his son.
