By the time the Liberal caucus and the 600 person-strong crowd had
gathered to hear Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff speak at a
fundraising dinner, the excitement was palpable. But that’s just a hint
of what to expect at tomorrow evening’s National Caucus kick-off rally.
Day one of National Caucus was all about connecting with the community
here in Sudbury: Michael sat down with striking workers from Vale Inco;
he also joined MP Maria Minna in meetings with local women’s
organizations; MP Justin Trudeau made a stop at Laurentian University;
and MP Marc Garneau met with local research and science officials. If
Liberals have a message for Northern Ontario, it’s this: we care, we’re
here, and we’re listening.
Today wasn’t all serious, though. We can hardly post without mentioning
Michael’s quip to reporters at today’s press conference – retweeted
heavily on the #libcaucus hashtag (now also on PoliTwitter.ca): “I’m surprised to see you all; you
disappeared on me this summer!” Naturally, readers of this blog know
that the best way to keep up with Michael isn’t through the national
media, but rather by signing up as a supporter on his Facebook page.
By the way, we’re all about crowdsourcing here at the Liberal.ca blog,
so if you’re at caucus and have photos you’d like to share or would
like to contribute to the blog, please email blog@liberal.ca to get in touch.
