With his sleeves rolled up, Michael Ignatieff took questions from over 200 students from Concordia University on Tuesday touching on all topics as the campus tour rolled into Montreal. Earlier in the day, he met with another 200 students at HEC Montréal, fielding questions on the environment, education, the shut down of Parliament, and Canada’s presence in the world (including a number of pointed questions on Darfur and Afghanistan). You can check out photos from the events here and here.
After Montreal, the tour made its way to the University of Toronto
Mississauga yesterday, where Michael Ignatieff walked into a room
packed with 600 students, professors and a half dozen MPs. Professor
Peter Loewen—who would graciously invited Mr. Ignatieff to take part in
what would normally be his Canada in Comparative Perspective course
—introduced the Liberal leader alongside Liberal candidate Omar
Alghabra.
“Your presence today is a sign you care about politics,” was the message Michael Ignatieff brought to students as he encouraged them to get involved in the political process. Click here for the Toronto Star’s coverage by Jim Wilkes.
A few hours later, students lined up at McMaster University’s oldest building to find out what the Leader of the Opposition was all about. Once things got underway, around 600 students found seating in the room, with another 100 on the balcony and 200 more just beyond the entrance. Students from Engineers Without Borders came out in full force, with questions on CIDA and Canada’s foreign aid commitments.
After chatting with students on the way out, it was wheels up at the Hamilton airport on the way to Winnipeg.
