Today the leader is talking about pensions, a subject of huge importance. Many retired people are discovering that they didn’t save enough or that their investments lost value during the recession and they’re worried. Let’s face it, we are living longer and sometimes incurring greater costs. How can the federal government help?
I think the Liberal party is offering a good solution through the creation of a supplementary plan for the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans, a way to put more savings aside for later on. This supplementary plan would be administered by the government just like the CPP and QPP.
The leader is taking questions from Canadians who are now retired and it’s clear he’s addressing a strong concern. That’s what it’s all about: responding to Canadians.
