Liberal Boutique is open for business

Posted by Mike Crawley on April 12, 2012 | No Comments

You’ve been asking for it, now here it is.

After a successful pilot at the Ottawa 2012 – Liberal Biennial Convention, we are excited to announce the official launch of the Liberal Boutique online store.

Click here to see the Liberal products available.

What better way to welcome the warm weather than by showing our Liberal colours.

Whether it’s for your riding association or club, for yourself or for a friend, we can all smile when we sip a warm morning beverage in a cool Liberal mug.

We hope these items will be useful for your Party activities or simply as a special gift. T-shirts, posters, barbeque aprons, noise-makers, and more – there’s something for everyone.

Why wait?  Click here now while these products are still red hot.

Thank you.

      Hi Jeff,
Well it’s strange to say but this is actually a good problem… we just emailed our entire supporter list so it’s normal that you experience some difficulty because we are seeing a high level of traffic on the site. If the issue persists, try again in half an hour and let us know if it still doesn’t work.

Seriously, guys? Isn’t LPC running its own server and it can’t handle the traffic? There’s no such thing as a “good problem” when a lot of people are going to say, well, better luck next time.

      Hi Margreta,

We are running our own servers but we are not running the store’s website, that is a separate company that is managing it. We have informed them of the difficulties users are experiencing.

      Thank you,

      -Stéphane

It’s asking me for a login username and password, is that our Liberal.ca account information? If so, it’s not accepting it.

No, you will not need a password.
That is a temporary fix by the separate company that manages the site as they work on making the site operational for everyone.

Again thank you for your patience and understanding.

I had my password and PIN rejected, so it does not seem to be a question of too many people wanting to access the site. Why would that much security be required in the first place anyway, just to perhaps buy a T-shirt or a button???

Our partner has informed us that they have “never seen demand like this before.” Your liberal.ca credentials are not required. That is a temporary fix by the separate company that manages the site as they work on making the site operational for everyone.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Hi Marco, the site is not a Liberal.ca property, your Liberal.ca username and password are not valid there. The username and password prompt is a temporary solution to the overwhelming traffic on the store’s website. It will not be required when the store is fully operational again.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

As per the others…having to put your user name and password…which does not work by the way…to go into a boutique to purchase Liberal paraphernalia is not business savvy. Why do we need a password and user name to browse merchandise? We want to make it accessible don’t we?

    • Avatar of Stephane Boisvert Stephane Boisvert said on

Peter, you are absolutely correct it would not be ‘business savvy’! The password prompt is a temporary solution that was enacted by the company managing our store to deal with the extraordinary demand (they said they have never seen demand like this before).
When the site is back to being fully operational you will not need a username and password, and sadly currently your Liberal.ca username and password will not give you access to the store.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

      -Stéphane

    Stephane/Andre,

Should you suggest the site managers change the password prompt to a simple message explaining the site is experiencing high-demand and to please check back later. I’m worried prompting for a password may frustrate/confuse some people who will never come back.

I am happy to see the party “boutique” open for business….I wish I could remember the ladies name, but she was one of the very first to suggest a Liberal store on here…..and as I recall, she was met with a lot of opposition from various people who had every reason why it wouldnt work. I hope if she still views/contributes to Liberal.ca she views the opening of the store with pride, because I feel she is owed some credit…..

When I attempt to get to the boutique site, a windows security screen appears looking for password input – I put in my password which is not accepted… I’ve never had this pop-up screen before – any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

It’s great to see this project coming to fruition.
    BTW – It’s still down at 9:43 p.m. EDT.

Actually, Robert Dyck – a longtime Liberal supporter in Winnipeg Manitoba – suggested this years ago, gave up after getting no responses, and created his own Liberal Stuff Store on a 3rd party storefront (online) to raise money for his EDA. Party officials in Ottawa forced him to take it down due to unauthorised use of Party logos.

I just have to note that providing a password prompt is ^not^ a professional way to handle a load issue. It should be done with a redirect to a function generating a message in the company’s page template saying something to the effect of… “We’re sorry but our site is not accessible at this time while we perform upgrades. Please bear with us and try again tomorrow.”

How do we know the company isn’t harvesting our login information?

How long is “temporary”? It’s now 8:43 a.m. the next day and the login prompt is still popping up. The old Idiom dyill applies: “If you want something done right, do it yourself.”

…. that’s “Still applies”… not “dyill applies”. The ability to edit comments would be a welcome change too. :)

I also think using a name and password prompt when the site got too much traffic. I hate to say it but I do believe that some may not bother trying to access the site at a later date out of confusion or frustration. Having said that I think it is great idea to have a merchandise site and am looking forward to seeing it, whenever that may be. :)

Oops I meant to say the Password prompt was a bad idea and a redirect to a page stating what the problem is would be way better.

    It does not work.

Security screen demands userid and password that do not match the liberal.ca credentials.

It is certainly not a volume issue.

    Please re-announce when it works.

It would be great to get a Liberal tie on sale in time for Christmas… I would love to get my ultra-conservative father-in-law a Liberal tie for Christmas… And I wouldn’t mind one either, come to think of it ;)
