Environmental de-regulation. Cuts to Old Age Security and fisheries. Sweeping changes to Employment Insurance. This government’s ‘kitchen sink’ budget bill goes too far on everything, carries with it serious consequences, and sets a dangerous precedent.
That’s why the Liberal Party of Canada was the first to submit its amendments to Bill C-38, tabling the required documentation to delete 503 clauses.
- As Parliamentarians we cannot sit idly by while the Conservatives try to run roughshod over due process.
- Unless the government agrees to make changes – including removing environmental measures from the budget bill – these deletion amendments, combined with amendments from independent members and other parties, have the potential to delay the House of Commons for a very long time, perhaps days.
- The ball is in the government’s court. If they want to avoid a standoff, they must put water in their wine.

Bill C-38 is Harper’s incapability therefore change is necessary in order to avoid futur deficit.
You are all working so hard to beat the Cons but not much hope when the Speaker will hardly be brave enough to cross his Boss
Scheer is young, new to the job, bent on keeping the job, so hardly likely to be objective
Harper needs to step down – something he is not likely to do, so the Liberals need to be strong and defeat this crazy Bill C-38 as well as everything he is trying to put over on us. Harper is not taking the welfare of the environment and its denizens nor the citizens of the country into consideration when he makes decisions which he seems to want to impose on us with a dictatorlike attitude. The Liberals also need to defeat Harper at the polls during the next election, and the sooner the better. He is not who we want to govern our country, he is selfish and totally oblivious as to what Canadians want and need from their government.
The changes to the Employment Insurance that the CONS have in the omnibus bill C-38 is to deny the unemployed to benefits under bureaucratic scrutiny. They would have an older, established trades person relocate to obtain work or that individual would not be able to collect. He or she would have to sell their home, disrupt families from making sure their children are in schools, establishing friends and a quality of life. Even the layed-off public service employees will be under the CONS dictated ruling. The next thing they would do is abolish Employment Insurance all together. I believe the Liberal Party will bring to light what the CONS are doing to this country. I support the efforts of the leadership and look forward to the rebuilding of this party.
And what about allowing or otherwise Bob Rae to run for the permanent leadership? He pre-empted you – clever, but very sad indeed. Leader No. 3 destroyed by a pathological system, and not only by the other side.
Harpers a monster
