This past year, at all levels, your Party has been involved with the much anticipated redistribution process of electoral districts (ridings) as Elections Canada prepares to add thirty new ridings across Canada.
The redistribution process is managed by ten electoral boundaries commissions established by the government. This summer the commissions released their initial proposals for the new riding boundaries, and this fall, public hearings were held to solicit input from Canadians. Community groups, municipal officials, Party members from our riding associations and our Members of Parliament made many presentations concerning the proposals. I would like to thank our Party members and MPs for their dedication and constructive ideas they offered to the commissions. Each commission is now reporting back their final recommendations and next year these final recommendations will work themselves through Parliament and into law by fall 2013.
This puts us into a new phase of the redistribution process, as all levels of our party must prepare for the implementation of the thirty new riding associations and adjusting where necessary, existing riding associations that are having their boundaries changed. As we move through this process together as a Party, I will keep you regularly informed through the Members’ Update as to how it affects you and how it affects our organization as we prepare for the next election.
