Harper just doesn’t seem to get the message.
Last September, while Jack Layton sat on his hands, the Liberal party sided with police officers, doctors, nurses and victims to fight to protect the life saving gun registry — a campaign that concluded in a decisive vote in the House of Commons that should have put this debate to rest.
Yet today, with Stephen Harper’s campaign failing to lift off, he turned to a “Fear for Canada” message meant to divide – rather than unite – Canadians: yet another attempt to eliminate the life saving gun registry.
The Liberal Party wants to maintain the integrity of the gun registry in order to protect public safety, but the Liberal Platform also proposes sensible changes to the registry to make it work better for law-abiding long-gun owners. (You can learn more in our platform here).
We register our cars. We register our dogs. Shouldn’t we register weapons like these?
Take a look at the slideshow below, published in September, of the kinds of guns that could end up in our communities as unregistered weapons, if Harper has his way.
