It’s been just three days (and the sacking of one Conservative whistleblower) since Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and MP Martha Hall Findlay called on the Harper government to stop spending taxpayer dollars on promoting their partisan agenda.
Yesterday, the Reform-Conservatives did it again. This time, it was an orchestrated attack to drown out negative news coverage by plastering media websites with ads – estimated to cost $1.2 million – selling their economic plan, timed to coincide with the release of their latest economic report. (See the slideshow below).
This is the same economic report that boasts 90% of the economic plan had been implemented, when to take just one example, only 12% of the flagship infrastructure stimulus fund is estimated to be creating jobs.
Is it any wonder that the government was worried they couldn’t get the coverage they wanted? Maybe its why they selectively blocked media from getting past the barricades at their event in Saint-John – an event so closely guarded that neither a New Brunswick cabinet minister or nearby MP could get past the RCMP lockdown to hear the Prime Minister.
As Michael Ignatieff said last Friday, Liberals aren’t against government advertising – as long as it’s clearly in the public interest.
This Reform-Conservative government is proving once again that its priority is taking credit – not creating jobs for Canadians.
