It snowed. We had just pulled up to today’s first campaign stop — a farmers’ co-op in Compton, Quebec — when the flakes began to fall. It didn’t help that Michael Ignatieff took questions from the press outdoors; my undersized trench coat proved woefully inadequate.
Spring is coming, as Michael Ignatieff said last night in Drummondville. The Harper winter is almost over. In rural communities across the country, the Liberal spring is on its way.
Michael Ignatieff came to Compton to announce the Liberal Party’s commitment to rural Canada: “Rural Canada Matters.” Canada’s first National Food Policy, to put more Canadian food on Canadian plates. Rural broadband. Rural health care. Rural mail services. Support for volunteer fire fighters. All of it is part of what Liberals are fighting for in this election: equal opportunity for every Canadian family.

Spring is coming. Until then, I need a warmer coat.
