The Olympics have turned Vancouver into a global meeting place. Zsuzsanna and I rode the Canada Line to the opening ceremonies with a visitor from Belgium, and spectators mingle with movie stars in the Starbucks that dot downtown.
In the last few days, weve seen Trevor Linden — the Canucks’ former franchise player — a handful of Olympians, and both Brian Williams-es (of CTV and NBC, respectively). We had breakfast across the room from Premier Gordon Campbell and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Yesterday, we took in our first sporting event, the men’s 1500-metre speed skating. On the way in, we bumped into Canadian skip Kevin Martin.

Across Burrard Inlet, on Cypress Mountain, Jenn Heil won Canada’s first medal on the moguls course. We’ve only just begun.
Michael Ignatieff will be blogging and tweeting his experiences during the Vancouver Olympic Games. Check back here for updates!
