What we can be sure of is change in the world. The Liberal Party fell apart from infighting as much as from the wear and tear of tough decisions in government. Some unscrupulous Liberals through the sponsorship scandal created further distrust and disaffection among voters for the Liberal Party. That trust is and will be hard to gain back. We are a party long on history and short on geography at present. Hopefully we have humbly learned from these significant mistakes and will grow in expertise. Our new leader and renewed Party have an enormous task ahead of us.

My observation is that most Liberals tend to be middle class or upper middle class socio-economic folks with a progressive social conscience and economic priorities. We need to fight the other parties in maintaining that turf. Significant numbers of Canadians need to see the Liberals as their inspiration and hope.

History shows, if the British Liberal Party is any example, that the rise of Labour (NDP in Canada) and the resurgence of the Conservatives did squeeze out the Liberals as a party of significance by 1929. That national party really has been in the doldrums since that time. I am concerned that this same pattern does not happen to us in a belated historical way. The leadership candidates must address this issue by articulating the benefits of a Liberal Party in Canada in a persuasive way as each of us does within our own circles of personal influence. I look forward to the series of debates where fellow Liberals will gain insights as to who may be the ultimate choice to lead us through change and success at the polls.

I will be watching the debate with great interest.

I want to see how the candidates treat each other. This is going to go a long way to knowing who has the capability of being a leader.

A true leader does not have to belittle someone else to make themselves look or feel stronger. They must work with each other afterwards so I don’t want to see the type of thing the NDP did last year.

Have no favourite right now so this should be very interesting.

I’m out of town and I don’t think I’ll be able to watch the debate live. Will the video be posted somewhere so we can watch it later?
