It’s a speech that will set the tone for our Fall Session of Parliament, and prepare all Liberals for the important period ahead. And you can watch it live online today at 1 pm ET.
After more than a year of rebuilding our Party, and of holding Stephen Harper to account in the House of Commons, Canadians are getting to know a new Liberal Party of Canada.
It’s a Party where the doors are wide open. Where any Canadian can have a voice – whether on our website or in their riding. Where any Canadian can sign up for the chance to vote for our Leader – and over 20,000 already have.
And as our MPs and Senators head back to Ottawa, and our members and supporters prepare for a vigorous leadership race, we must remember this:
Both our work in Parliament and our upcoming Leadership Race share a common goal. They must give Canadians the opportunity to see themselves in the Liberal Party of Canada.
Liberals remain steadfast defenders of a strong, united Canada, and this will continue to be a guiding principle in our Party’s renewal process. If, as a movement, we are growing, we are united, and we are committed to a common vision of growth, hope and opportunity for all Canadians, we are on the right track.
That’s why it’s never been more important to state clearly what we stand for.
Our values of dignity, integrity, compassion, reason and responsibility are our compass. Our vision of a prosperous, socially just, united and environmentally healthy Canada for all Canadians is our destination.
And we will get there with a responsible and democratic federal Liberal government that listens and cares for the people it is supposed to serve.
We have some very important issues to debate in Parliament this upcoming session: crime, energy, health, the economy, and aboriginal affairs. And when the Leadership Race begins an extraordinary group of candidates will tell us how they will make our Liberal vision a reality.
So please click here to join me and our Party’s Caucus online just a few minutes before 1 pm ET.
Thank you.
Bob Rae
