There’s a new storyline emerging in the dog days of summer: Where’s Harper hiding?
It’s a fair question – and Scott Brison asked it today in Ottawa: With Canadians concerned about issues like the census and expensive new jet fighters, why won’t the Prime Minister publicly justify his decisions?
Stephen Harper has only ventured out of hiding 7 times this summer—and 3 of those were to be at the Queen’s side in early July. The last time he took a question from a journalist was three weeks ago.
Michael Ignatieff, on the other hand, is well on his way to attending 102 events by the end of August and has already held 53 events in 40 communities. And then there are those 5 or 6 daily interviews.
Everyone’s talking about the Liberal Express. Now people are starting to notice Mr. Harper’s absence.
This morning, the Globe and Mail published a story comparing Stephen Harper to the kid that spends all summer long in the basement watching TV. You know—the one who needs to be reminded that sunlight is a good thing.
In today’s Guelph Mercury, meanwhile, Michael Ignatieff is being touted as “just an ordinary Canadian.”
While visiting Elliot Community, a long-term care facility and retirement home in Guelph, Michael Ignatieff crouched down to talk to elderly residents who were sitting down or using wheelchairs.
When was the last time you saw Stephen Harper get close to any ordinary Canadian? And crouch—forget about it!
So if you see Harper, let us know. We’re keeping track of him on this barren online map. It’s a lot like the big Liberal Express tour map, just minus the 102 stops.
