MONTRÉAL– Liberal Public Safety critic Francis Scarpaleggia made the following statement today on the Québec Superior Court decision on data from the long gun registry:
“We welcome the decision of the Québec Superior Court, which ruled that the federal government must share the long gun registry data with a province that plans to establish its own provincial gun registry. Since the beginning, we have said that it makes no sense to throw this vital data in the garbage for ideological reasons when there are other levels of government that want to put it to good use.
We hope that the Harper Conservatives will face the facts and decide not to appeal the Court’s decision. This data will save lives and make the work of law enforcement safer and more efficient. It must be preserved.”
