Stephen Harper and his government would not defend Canada against attacks from US Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) in Question Period today.
Liberal Health Critic Dr. Carolyn Bennett asked Prime Minister Harper to share the outrage of Canadians at comments made in a United States Senate meeting yesterday, where Senator Corker accused Canada of having a “parasitic relationship” with the American health care system.
“Will the Prime Minister denounce Senator Corker’s reprehensible characterization of our country?” Dr. Bennett asked. “This is simple. It is about standing up for our health care system when it’s under attack from right wing Republican ideologues. The very same ideologues that the Prime Minister said he admired. When will the Prime Minister or anyone from the Conservatives finally begin to defend and promote Canada’s most cherished social program, our health care system?”
Prime Minister Harper wouldn’t respond and Conservative Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq dodged the question.
