Liberal Finance Critic Scott Brison Asks Parliament to Address Income Inequality

Posted on June 7, 2012

OTTAWA– Canadians believe that growing income inequality is the most important challenge facing Canada, said Liberal Finance critic Scott Brison today.

“A rise in inequality of opportunity leads to tremendous social and economic costs for Canada,” said Mr. Brison. “MPs have a responsibility to address this important and complex issue. That is why I brought forward a motion asking Parliament to study income inequality and devise solutions.”

Mr. Brison’s private members motion, M-315, will receive its second hour of debate in the House of Commons today. A vote is expected to take place next Wednesday.

“Income inequality in Canada has grown under federal and provincial governments of all stripes. No political party has a monopoly on either the solutions or the blame,” said Mr. Brison. “I call on MPs from all parties to put Canadians first, support this motion and work together to fight growing inequality of opportunity in Canada.”
