Liberal Statement on the Shooting of RCMP Officers in Killam, Alberta

Posted on February 8, 2012

OTTAWA— Liberal Public Safety critic Francis Scarpaleggia made the following statement today on the shooting of two RCMP officers in Killam, Alberta:

“Yesterday afternoon near the town of Killam, Alberta, two RCMP officers were shot while fulfilling their duties to their community.

Thanks to the quick and efficient response by emergency services, both officers were airlifted to hospitals and are now recovering in stable condition.

That day could have easily turned even more tragic for these officers and their families. It is a harsh reminder of the real dangers our RCMP face in serving their communities and the sacrifice our men and women of the RCMP are prepared to make doing their job.

We thank these two brave officers for their continuing service. Our hearts and prayers are with them and their families at this time and we wish them a speedy and full recovery.

We await the conclusion of the investigation and hope that those responsible will be brought to justice.”
