Liberal Statement on the United Nations Security Council Resolution Condemning the Violence in Syria

Posted on February 4, 2012

SHEDIAC, NB– Liberal Foreign Affairs critic Dominic LeBlanc made the following statement today on the United Nations Security Council resolution condemning the violence in Syria:

“We deplore the outcome of today’s United Nations Security Council meeting and the decision by the Russian and Chinese delegations to stand in the way of ending the bloodshed in Syria. President Bashar al-Assad has lost all legitimacy, and we condemn in the strongest terms the massacre against the people of Homs that left hundreds dead and countless more injured. The international community has an obligation to stand up for the people of Syria, and we must do what we can to help bring about a peaceful political transition.”
