OTTAWA— Liberal Citizenship and Immigration critic Kevin Lamoureux made the following statement today calling on the Conservatives and the NDP to support his motion before the House of Commons Citizenship and Immigration Committee to study cuts to the Interim Federal Health Program:
“The Conservative government’s reckless cuts to refugee health care have deprived the most vulnerable members of our society much-needed assistance with life saving medications, vision care and treatment for mental health issues.
Health care professionals from across the country have affirmed that this government’s changes to the Interim Federal Health Program will result in poorer health outcomes for refugees. They are seeing the negative impact on the ground and would like the issue examined at committee.
It is essential that Parliamentarians hear from frontline health care workers, groups representing refugees and provincial governments in order to fully understand how these cuts are affecting refugees. I sincerely hope that I can count on all parties to support my motion.”
