Long Overdue Victory for Veterans in Failed Conservative Pension Clawback

Long Overdue Victory for Veterans in Failed Conservative Pension Clawback

Posted on January 9, 2013

CHARLOTTETOWN– Liberal Veterans Affairs critic Sean Casey made the following statement today on the tentative agreement reached between the Conservative government and veterans on military pensions:

“We are pleased that the Conservative government has finally concluded a settlement agreement with veterans that will end a class action lawsuit on the clawback of military pensions.

While the details will need final sign off by the Federal Court, today marks the end of a long, difficult and wholly avoidable process for veterans following their significant victory against the Conservative government at the Federal Court in May.

Now that a settlement has been reached with our Canadian Forces veterans, the Conservatives should do the same with our RCMP veterans who have been similarly fighting for their hard-earned pensions since 2008.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I want to acknowledge the determination of Dennis Manuge, who fought this economic injustice on behalf of thousands of veterans across the country, and renew our party’s commitment to fighting for the rights of those who serve our country.”
