THUNDER BAY – Canadians face a clear choice in this election, between help for families now with a fiscally responsible Liberal plan or help for families five years from now and more out-of-control spending, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said today.
“The choice Canadians face is clear: they can vote for a Liberal government that will defend public health care and help families right now with the cost of college and university, child care, family care, retirement savings, and energy-efficient green renovations,” said Mr. Ignatieff, drawing attention to the Liberal Family Pack at the heart of the Liberal platform.
“Or they will get four more years of Mr. Harper, who will only help well-off families five years from now, after making them wait at the back of the line behind billions in spending on tax cuts for large corporations, fighter jets and jails.”
Mr. Ignatieff presented the clear choice facing Canadians after a tour of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where he was joined by Yves Fricot, Liberal candidate for Thunder Bay-Superior North, and Ken Boshcoff, Liberal candidate for Thunder Bay-Rainy River.
“A vote for the Liberal Party is a vote to defend the future of public health care funding, with a responsible fiscal plan that puts families at the front of the line, won’t increase their taxes, stops corporate give-aways, and turns the page on wasteful spending like $30-billion fighter jets,” said Mr. Ignatieff.
Every dollar invested in the Liberal Family Pack and the Liberal platform is costed, alongside a commitment to deficit reduction and a prudence reserve to protect Canada from unforeseen economic events.
“As for the NDP, they’re promising an astonishing $70 billion in new spending without a credible way to pay for it. While the Liberals have a plan to eliminate the deficit, the NDP’s fantasy platform would drive the deficit up and our economy down.
“On May 2nd, only the Liberal Party is offering voters the choice of a credible plan to help your family now and defend public health care,” Mr. Ignatieff concluded.
