TORONTO– Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on Canadian Multiculturalism Day:
“Today, on Canadian Multiculturalism Day, we appreciate our country’s rich diversity and the significant contributions that multicultural communities and groups have made to Canada’s social and economic fabric.
As Canadians, we believe fundamentally that all citizens, regardless of their ethnic or religious background, must have an equal voice and the opportunity to participate fully in our society. Established in 2002 by the Liberal government of Jean Chrétien, this day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality, mutual respect and democracy upon which Canada was built and our policy of multiculturalism was founded.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I join with all Canadians in celebrating Canada’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.”
