TORONTO— Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on National Peacekeepers’ Day:
“Canada has a proud tradition of contributing to peacekeeping efforts around the world and today we honour that history and those Canadians who sacrificed their lives for their mission.
Canadian peacekeepers put themselves in harm’s way to serve those in need in times of conflict and disaster. Our servicemen and servicewomen and our RCMP officers serving in international police operations risk everything for the safety and security of others.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I commend the efforts and sacrifices of those Canadians who have served and those who continue to serve in UN Peacekeeping efforts around the world.”
