TORONTO- Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today regarding the attack on the United States consulate in Libya:
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of United States Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens and the three embassy personnel and service members who were killed in the attack on the US mission in Benghazi, Libya yesterday.
Ambassador Stevens was engaged in important work in support of the difficult transition to a more democratic and open Libya. His death, and those of his colleagues, at the hands of a violent demonstration is a wholly unnecessary tragedy.
We condemn this violent attack against the American mission, and support the Libyan government in its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, our thoughts and prayers are with the American people at this difficult time.”
