OTTAWA– Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the death of Raylene Rankin:
“It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Canadian singer Raylene Rankin.
A member of the internationally-acclaimed Nova Scotian musical family The Rankins, Raylene and her siblings Cookie, Heather, Jimmy and the late John Morris, brought Cape Breton Celtic music into the mainstream more than two decades ago. Together, they sold over 2 million records and were the recipients of several Junos, East Coast Music Awards and Canadian Country Music Awards.
Raylene was a vocal advocate for cancer research and displayed great personal strength in her public fight with this devastating disease.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I offer my deepest condolences to Raylene’s husband Colin, her son Alexander and their entire family.”
