OTTAWA– Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee:
“On this day 60 years ago, Her Majesty the Queen acceded to the Throne and became the Queen of Canada. As the world has undergone great changes and advances, she has presided over the modernization of the monarchy with strength and dignity.
Since 1952, she has visited Canada on more than twenty separate occasions, and we all know that she has always felt the deepest pride and affection for Canada and all Canadians, a feeling that is equally shared by all of us towards her.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I want to congratulate Her Majesty on her Diamond Jubilee and take this opportunity to thank her for her dedicated service to our country, to the Commonwealth and to the world.”
