Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement today on the celebration of Canadian Forces Day:
“Today on Canadian Forces Day, we pay tribute to the service of the men and women of the Canadian military, past and present, who put their lives at risk every day to help bring peace and stability to regions around the world.
“Every year on the first Sunday in June, we celebrate their courage and commitment at home and abroad. But we also remember the distinguished heritage and past accomplishments of the Canadian Armed Forces.
“From Vimy Ridge, to Juno Beach, to the Korean War and now in Afghanistan, as well as the many peacekeeping missions around the world, Canadian soldiers have an extraordinary reputation for helping to safeguard freedom and security.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I would like express my sincere gratitude and continued support for the men and women serving in the Canadian Forces. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Canada.”
