Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement today in commemoration of Remembrance Day:
“Today, we remember and honour the sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces, both past and present. We owe our stature in the world to the generations of heroes who have distinguished Canada and defended our values across the world.
“We remember the fallen of Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, and Ypres, of Normandy, of Korea and Kandahar – the 100,000 Canadians whose sacrifice reminds us, lest we forget, that when humanity has called on Canada, we have answered.
“Today, again, our country is at war. 133 Canadians have laid down their lives in Afghanistan. They have stood for the freedom and security of the Afghan people because of the humanity we share. We stand proudly with them, in admiration.
“The Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus joins all Canadians in pausing today to remember our courageous fallen, to honour the sacrifices they and their families have made and continue to make, and to reflect on the proud Canadian legacy they have left.”
