Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement today on the celebration of Eid al-Fitr:
“This year, with the conclusion of the prayers and reflection of Ramadan, the tradition of helping others in need, embodied in zakat and so central to the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, takes on particular importance as we witness the tragedy that continues to unfold in Pakistan.
When we give thanks for the perseverance that defines the month of Ramadan, we know that those reserves of strength have never been more necessary for friends and family touched by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I want to extend my best wishes to all Muslims, in Canada and around the world, as you celebrate Eid al-Fitr in communities across the country.”
