On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, I want to extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji is revered as the founding Guru of the Sikh faith and present day Sikhism is still based on his teachings and those of the nine Gurus that followed him.
His teachings, like Vaan Chakko, are grounded in the principles of sharing and helping those in need and reflect the generosity of spirit that all Canadians aspire to.
The Sikh principle that God and Devotion transcends any religious divide is an idea reflected in the Canadian belief in a pluralist society, where people of many religious beliefs can live and work together side by side.
As those of you of the Sikh faith gather with family and friends to sing, pray and eat together, in your Gurdwaras and in your homes — please accept my best wishes for a happy and memorable celebration.
