Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement on the death of Private Kevin McKay:
“I am saddened to learn that Private Kevin McKay was killed yesterday in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol in the Panjwaii district, southwest of Kandahar.
Private McKay served in the Edmonton-based 1st Battalion of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, and was from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He was days away from his scheduled return home.
The loss of this brave soldier reminds Canadians of the dangerous but important work the men and women of the Canadians Forces carry out each day to ensure peace and security for the people of Afghanistan and the region. Private McKay took on the challenge of defending peace and today we remember his courage and dedication to the mission.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I offer my sincerest condolences to Private Kevin McKay’s family, friends and to the entire Canadian Forces family.”
