I am saddened to learn that Lt. Justin Boyes lost his life today in Afghanistan after stepping on an improvised explosive device while mentoring the Afghan National Police on foot patrol. Two other Canadian soldiers were also injured.
Lt. Boyes served in the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton.
Today’s loss of this brave soldier reminds Canadians of the dangerous but important work the men and women of our Armed Forces carry out to ensure peace and security for the people of Afghanistan and the region. Lt. Boyes took on the challenge of defending peace and today we remember his courage and dedication to the mission.
My thoughts and prayers, and those of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, go out to the family and friends of Lt. Justin Boyes, and to the entire Canadian Forces family. I also wish a swift recovery to those who were injured in the blast.
