Today marks the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Older Persons. This day recognizes the contributions of older persons to our society but also allows us to consider the issues affecting their lives.
Over the past decade we have strived to move towards a society for all ages. Seniors represent the most rapidly growing segment of Canadian society but they also represent an enormous resource of skills, training, knowledge and experience.
Their hard work, their perseverance and their sacrifices helped to build a stronger Canadian society – an effort we are for which we are grateful.
The Liberal Party is committed to adhering to the UN Principles for Older Persons founded on the need to build an inclusive society that emphasizes participation, self-fulfilment, independence and care and dignity for all.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, our Seniors Commission, and our Parliamentary Caucus I’d like to extend my best wishes to all Canadian seniors.
