I join with all Canadians in mourning the loss of Lieutenant Andrew Richard Nuttall, who lost his life yesterday in Afghanistan.
Lt. Nuttall, of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, served with the 1st Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton. He was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated in the town of Nakhoney, in the Panjwaii district of southern Afghanistan.
Lt. Nuttall laid down his life in the service of peace, while bringing stability to a troubled region of the world in the proudest tradition of the Canadian Forces. We honour his commitment and sacrifice, and the courage of all our soldiers working to ensure a safe and secure future for the people of Afghanistan.
My thoughts, and those of the Liberal Party of Canada, are with Lt. Nuttall’s family, friends, and the entire Canadian Forces family at this difficult time.
During this holiday season, we pay tribute to all of our brave men and women in uniform—and to their families here at home. All Canadians are grateful for their service.
