Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on the Death of Pierre Juneau

Posted on February 21, 2012

BROSSARD, QC— Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the death of Pierre Juneau:

“Today Canada lost one of its greatest advocates for Canadian music and culture.

As a former president of the CBC and the first chairman of the Canadian Radio and Television Commission, Mr. Juneau was instrumental in developing regulations that assured we would see and hear Canadian creations broadcast from coast to coast to coast.

A recipient of the Order of Canada, Mr. Juneau’s contribution to today’s Canadian culture and identity is significant and will long be remembered. In fact, it is in recognition of his tireless efforts promoting Canadian music that our music industry named their annual awards the Junos.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I extend my condolences to Pierre Juneau’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
