Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on Eid al-Adha

Posted on November 6, 2011

OTTAWA – Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today to commemorate Eid al-Adha:

“On this religious holiday, Muslims around the globe and across Canada will attend morning prayers and exchange greetings and gifts with family and friends. They will commemorate Abraham’s trials and tribulations with their own sacrifices and acts of charity. This celebration of family and community is an opportunity to reflect on the shared values that bring all Canadians together and truly reflect the spirit of Eid al-Adha – that of peace, charity, family, and friendship.

As a country home to many different faiths we should all take a moment today to cherish how in Canada we have the ability to share and celebrate this holiday with the Muslim community. As we mark this important day in the Islamic calendar, I look forward to working with all Muslim-Canadians to help build a stronger Canada and strengthen the bonds of friendship between all cultural communities across this great country.

As Canadians of the Muslim faith gather with family and friends to pray, eat and celebrate this important religious holiday, on behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucusplease accept our best wishes for a wonderful Eid al-Adha celebration.”

Eid Mubarak!
