Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on the Flooding in the Philippines

Posted on August 9, 2012

TORONTO—Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the flooding in the Philippines:

“Over the past several days, communities surrounding the Marikina River in the Philippines, including the capital city, Manila, suffered yet more flooding as a result of tropical storms and a major typhoon, which has claimed the lives of at least 23 people and displaced more than 783,000.

In Canada, events on the other side of the world often hit close to home. For the Filipino communities across Canada, know that you have our full support in this trying time.

On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I would like to extend my condolences to those who suffered the loss of a loved one and my thoughts to those who were displaced by this disaster.”
