Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on Tết, the Vietnamese New Year

Posted on January 23, 2012

EDMUNSTON, NB– Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement on the Vietnamese New Year:

“Today friends and family in our Vietnamese communities across the country mark the beginning of a new year, the Year of the Dragon.  The dragon represents power, passion and drive, as well as the notion that freedom persists in the face of any obstacle.

The beginning of the New Year is an important time to reflect on the past, look forward to the promise of the future and celebrate with family and friends.  The New Year is also a fitting occasion to celebrate the invaluable contributions the Vietnamese community has made to Canada.  Their commitment to learning, family and community has enriched Canadian society.

“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all Canadians celebrating Tết, the Vietnamese New Year.

Chúc Mừng Năm Mới! Chuc Mung Nam Moi.”
