Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff officially embarked on the cross-country Liberal Express summer tour today to showcase the Liberal Party as the clear alternative to the Harper Conservatives.
“I am very excited to be hitting the road this summer to meet with Canadians, to listen, to learn, and to share the Liberal vision with them,” said Mr. Ignatieff while surrounded by members of his caucus and hundreds of cheering Liberal supporters on Parliament Hill.
“While Stephen Harper sticks to his tightly-controlled script, stuck in a bubble far from real Canadians, we firmly believe a tour like this is important to really connect with Canadians. And in so doing, Canadians will see a real contrast to the current government – one that represents a progressive, compassionate and responsible alternative.”
After the Parliament Hill launch, Mr. Ignatieff, the Liberal Team, and members of the media climbed aboard the Liberal Express bus for a swing through Eastern Ontario, starting what will be a jam-packed summer itinerary of whistle stops, town halls and backyard BBQs.
“All summer long, in every province and territory, we’ll be having some really meaningful dialogue about the future of this great country,” said Mr. Ignatieff.
“Stephen Harper’s only plan for Canada is wasteful spending and shirking accountability. His priorities are billions blown on the G20’s poor planning, fake lakes and gazebos, giving $6 billion in tax cuts to profitable corporations to saddle an even higher deficit on Canadian families, and proroguing Parliament at the first sign of trouble.
“In comparison, starting now and continuing right through the summer, we’ll invite Canadians to consider how Mr. Harper’s wasteful culture of deceit stacks up next to a practical Liberal vision for learning and innovation, care for our families, and restoring Canada’s leadership in the world.”
